Prioritizing Self-Care for a Healthy Heart

Sheila Hautbois, PA-C, MSPAS, MPH, CHES®, DipACLM, FACLM

Being a Board Certified PA means prioritizing your patients’ health. But it’s equally important to prioritize your own.

In celebration of American Heart Month, we asked Sheila Hautbois, PA-C, MSPAS, MPH, CHES®, DipACLM, FACLM, a distinguished lifestyle medicine PA, to share reminders that can help keep your heart and overall health in tip-top shape:

Hautbois recommends following the American Heart Association’s “Life’s Essential 8” as well as:

  • Stay adequately hydrated with water and water-based beverages throughout the day.
  • Drink little to no alcohol.
  • Practice good stress management techniques to proactively bring laughter and peace into your life.
  • Foster healthy relationships that provide you with love.

“By making your well-being a priority and embracing a lifestyle filled with love and laughter, you are creating a recipe for a happy and healthy heart,” said Hautbois. “Listen to your body and be consistent with these simple but powerful behavior choices that will pave the way to a happier and healthier you.”
