Work-Life Balance is Greatest Defense Against PA Job Stress, New Study Finds
More than one third of PAs reported at least one symptom of burnout in 2023, with rates highest in emergency medicine and lowest in dermatology, according to a new analysis published in Health Affairs Scholar.
The study, “Understanding burnout in physician assistants/associates through the lens of Conservation of Resources theory,” drew on responses from 122,360 Board Certified PAs who completed the NCCPA PA Professional Profile.
Overall, 34.2% of PAs screened positive for burnout symptoms. PAs practicing in emergency medicine reported a 42.2% prevalence while PAs practicing in dermatology reported 26.1%
