States ranked by physician assistant workforce
The PA profession grew 27.8% over the last five years, reaching 189,907 board-certified PAs at the end of 2024, according to the latest NCCPA Statistical Profile of Board Certified PAs released May 12.
NCCPA’s annual report, now in its 12th year of publication, includes data from more than 159,500 PAs nationwide.
“There are now 56 PAs per 100,000 population in the U.S., compared to 45 in 2020. This continued growth reflects the increasing demand for PAs across various healthcare specialties,” NCCPA President and CEO Dawn Morton-Rias, EdD, PA-C, said in a news release shared with Becker’s. “PAs play an indispensable role as patient care continues to rapidly evolve.”
