PA Highlights Critical Role in Colorectal Cancer Care
As March brings attention to colorectal cancer awareness, Marian Fagbemi, MPAS, PA-C, a Board Certified PA practicing in colorectal surgery, is focused on improving patient outcomes and increasing screening awareness.
“PAs play a significant role in closing the gap and improving patient outcomes within colorectal surgery,” Fagbemi said. “We play an essential part in supporting patients throughout their entire colorectal surgical care, frequently acting as their initial point of contact.”
According to the 2024 Statistical Profile of Board Certified PAs by Specialty, 318 PAs practice in colon and rectal surgery.
From evaluation to postoperative care, Fagbemi helps guide patients through each stage of treatment.
“PAs in colorectal surgery play an integral role in the complex decision-making process for each patient,” she said. “The immediate satisfaction of resolving complex clinical problems or removing cancer is a key reason I’m drawn to this specialty. Even though this specialty is not the most glamourous part of medicine, it is definitely a vital part.”
