Lifelong PA Profession Commitment and Leadership
Laura P. Bush, DMSc, PA-C, DFAAPA, didn’t plan on becoming a PA. In fact, she stumbled into the profession by accident.
“When I graduated from Emory University in 1991, the PA profession was not widely known,” Bush said. “I had an interest in medicine and had a friend who had moved to Atlanta. I took a tour of Emory Medical School and stumbled upon the PA program. I found it interesting and applied. I was actually out of the country when my acceptance letter came. My mom sent a deposit and informed me that I had one week to move to Atlanta upon my return to the U.S. The application process sure has changed.”
That leap of faith launched a career that has spanned more than three decades. Today, Bush works full time as a PA in Fayetteville, Georgia, practicing in medical dermatology, including complex cases, and performing surgical procedures such as biopsies and excisions. She also teaches PA students, lectures to her peers at conferences across multiple specialties, and contributes articles to professional journals.
