International Gathering for PA Profession
Earlier this year, more than 50 leaders from the U.S. and 13 other countries gathered at the International PA Summit, hosted by NCCPA at its Johns Creek, Georgia headquarters.
The event, sponsored by AAPA, ARC-PA, NCCPA and PAEA, focused on advancing the PA and PA-equivalent professions worldwide.
Attendees shared updates from their respective regions and discussed education standards, certification, accreditation and licensure.
U.S. organizations also highlighted their latest initiatives, including advocacy efforts, new education models and the evolving role of certification in maintaining professional standards.
One of the main topics of discussion was the international interest in NCCPA certification and PANCE eligibility. The current PANCE eligibility requirements include graduation from an ARC-PA-accredited PA program.
Some international representatives noted the value of U.S.-based credentials in elevating the PA profession’s standing in their countries and expressed a desire for their graduates to be eligible to take the PANCE. In response, ARC-PA leaders are exploring a pilot program with a small number of international PA or PA equivalent programs that are interested in pursuing ARC-PA accreditation.
Moving forward, there was agreement on the value of continuing informed and thoughtful discussions with the worldwide PA and PA equivalent professions.
Following the Summit, the four U.S. national PA organizations will continue to collaborate on efforts to monitor the international landscape of the profession, with each organization addressing any initiatives, if needed, related to their organization’s mission and strategic direction.
