Volunteer Spotlight: Tyler Christensen, PA-C
After more than two decades in emergency medicine, Board Certified PA Tyler Christensen, PA-C, knows the fast-paced world of patient care inside and out.
Everything changed when a volunteer recruitment email landed in his inbox, prompting him to take on a challenge far outside the trauma bay.
“Normally, I turn down these types of requests,” Christensen said, “but I decided to step out of my comfort zone and get more involved.”
Christensen, who works at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center and Idaho Falls Community Hospital, volunteered with the blueprint and test writing groups. For someone who admits he has “always hated taking tests,” the experience was eye-opening.
“This has been a great opportunity for me to learn about test development and test-question writing. It has given me a unique opportunity to participate in the process of writing exam questions,” he said. “I have been humbled to learn about the time and effort required to write good questions.”
The work has been deeply rewarding.
“It’s easy to sit on the sidelines and let others do the hard work, but it is not as rewarding as getting involved,” Christensen said. “Seeing the inner workings of the NCCPA has been fun and contributing in a small way to my profession on a national level has been very rewarding.”
