Tell us about your current role.
I have been practicing as a PA in medical dermatology for almost 15 years, all at the same practice (Heartland Dermatology, formerly Mid-Kansas Dermatology). I have been blessed to work with some of the very best dermatology PAs and staff, whom I am proud to call friends. I began working with NCCPA a few years ago to develop the Dermatology CAQ exam and am currently the Vice-Chair, a role I was surprised and honored to accept. I reside in Wichita with my husband and five children. I love my work as a dermatology PA, and although life is busy and chaotic at times, we manage to make it fun every day!
Where did you graduate from PA school?
Wichita State University, class of 2010 – Go Shocks!
How did you learn about this volunteering opportunity, and which committees were you part of?
In late 2021, I received an email from the NCCPA regarding the Dermatology CAQ and quickly closed it. Weeks later, I decided to reread the email and felt that, although intimidating, this could be a great opportunity for personal growth and to expand my knowledge. I then took part in an item-writing workshop to understand the question-writing process (which is much more complex than you would think!). From there, I helped with a couple of item-writing assignments and item-review meetings. Most recently, I attended a forms review meeting and look forward to meeting more colleagues at the Exam Committee Advisory Panel meeting!
