PAHx Celebrates Black History Month
The PA History Society invites you to discover the often untold origin story of the PA profession. During Black History Month, PAHx is spotlighting notable African American PAs. On our website you can watch, listen and read about their meaningful contribution to health care and the PA profession.
Did you know that the establishment of the PA profession was partly modeled after an African American man working in a clinic back in the 1960s? Henry Lee “Buddy” Treadwell, a native of rural Garland, N.C., lived and worked on a farm until he completed high school and went to work for a local doctor. Little did Treadwell know his journey working with Dr. Amos Johnson would be part of the inspiration for a new medical profession. Visit our website to read Treadwell’s story and learn more about other PA trailblazers.
