Four PA Organizations Discuss Profession's Key Issues

Leaders of the four major organizations representing the PA profession (AAPA, ARC-PA, NCCPA and PAEA) met on March 15-16 for their Cross-Org meeting, which was designed to enhance their relationship through thoughtful dialogue and team-building activities. Specific priorities were to gain a better appreciation of the distinct roles of each of the four PA organizations and to identify and discuss opportunities for collaboration on key issues affecting the profession.

Common themes were:

  • Enhanced communication, transparency and greater understanding of the thinking behind key decisions of each organization

  • A desire to identify joint projects or initiatives that embody unity of the profession, while maintaining each organization’s individuality.

Several cross organizational opportunities were identified:

  • Promoting PAs as multifaceted leaders

  • Professional education across the PA lifespan; legal/ethical issues, billing, coding and reimbursement, leadership skills development, professionalism and burnout prevention

  • Promoting diversity in the PA profession

  • Supporting PA program growth—ensuring quality clinical sites, faculty development, competency and skills

  • Acknowledgement of each organizations’ work in mental and behavioral health

The next cross-org meeting is planned for Fall 2018. We look forward to building on what all agreed was a productive and highly successful cross org meeting.

Support for Your State Organization

As state PA organizations work toward revising and modernizing their PA practice acts and regulations, increasing membership in these chapters can significantly impact the process. Although NCCPA's mission is national in focus, we support the work of the state organizations and encourage PAs to show their support by becoming members. As the saying goes, all politics is local and strong state PA organizations can equal strong PA-friendly legislation.
