Summary of NCCPA Board Actions and Issues

The NCCPA Board of Directors met on Saturday, May 3, 2008 in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The following summary describes the actions taken and issues addressed at that meeting.

Removal of the Department of Defense as a Participating Organization

After nearly 18 months, it was with significant reluctance that the NCCPA Board of Directors acknowledged the Department of Defense's position that they could no longer appoint an individual to fulfill the requirements of service and participation on NCCPA's Board of Directors. When a participating organization cannot fill the obligations of service, NCCPA's Bylaws require the removal of that organization as a participating organization.

At the same time, the NCCPA Board of Directors recognized that scores of PAs proudly serve in the military and the profession has its historical roots in the armed forces. To ensure that NCCPA has an appropriately well-balanced Board, the Governance Committee was charged to evaluate the Board's overall composition in light of this change and report their findings and recommendations to the Board of Directors.

Presentation Regarding the Transition to Pearson VUE

On March 1, 2008, PAs began taking the initial and recertification exams at Pearson VUE Professional Testing Centers. This seamless change was the culmination of more than two years worth of effort and was part of a larger transition of testing services. This transition empowers NCCPA to have greater control over its examination program and, in turn, provide better customer service to certified and certifying PAs.

Other Issues & Decisions

•  The Board approved and accepted for filing minutes from the November 2007 and February 2008 Board and committee meetings. The Board also accepted for filing a report from the NCCPA Foundation.

•  The Board approved revisions to the organization's financial and accounting policies. Revisions were suggested as part of a scheduled three-year review to ensure the ongoing accuracy and clarity of the policies.
