Summary of NCCPA Board Actions and Issues

The NCCPA Board of Directors met on Saturday, May 6, 2006. The following summary describes the actions taken and issues addressed at that meeting.

Changes to NCCPA’s Recertification Exams and New Exam Products

In follow up to discussions from the February retreat, the Board continued discussions on (1) potential new exam programs and (2) possible changes to the existing recertification exams. In response to concerns and requests from several specialty groups, the Board discussed and approved the development of specialty recognition, including the development of specialty exams. A decision was also made to revise the current format of PANRE to include specialty modules. In addition, the Board determined that 2010 would be the final year for administering the Pathway II exam. Finally, in order to achieve the modifications to the existing exams and the development of new products, the Board approved the transition of some of the exam development and scoring activities from the National Board of Medical Examiners to NCCPA.

A task force was appointed to address specialty recognition, including the development of specialty exams, and changes to the PANRE. The task force will provide a report to the Board at the August meeting. Board members also will review a plan for test delivery for all examinations at the August meeting.

The NCCPA Board of Directors approved the development of an expanded credentialing service. Details of the information to include in the service will be discussed further at the August meeting.
