The Nomination,
Selection and Election of
PA Directors at Large
NCCPA has created a new category of board seats for PA
directors at large, through which the Board hopes to
foster greater representation of certified PAs. Any
certified PA is eligible for nomination, but candidates
should possess most, if not all, of the following
qualities or characteristics:
- Maturity, sound judgment, wide-ranging intellect
and personal and professional achievement
- Availability and willingness to commit time
needed to prepare for and attend board and
committee meetings
- Ability to understand rudimentary statistics
- Good communications skills
- Knowledge and understanding of the role of
governing bodies
- Working knowledge of financial, legal,
operational or other relevant aspects of national
and/or not-for-profit organizations
- Commitment to high quality patient care
All candidates will be considered, but during their
terms of service on the NCCPA board, directors may not be
employees or members of the board of directors of a NCCPA
appointing organization, nor may they be employees of or
derive income from a PA membership or certifying
organization.
Nomination and Application Requirements
Candidates for the PA director-at-large positions may
be self-nominated or nominated by an individual certified
physician assistant.
The nomination and application process includes the
following elements:
- NCCPA PA Director at Large Application Form,
which must be completed and signed by the
candidate
- An abbreviated curriculum vitae or résumé with
key highlights, not to exceed two pages
- Letter of recommendation/nomination signed by
at least 10 certified PAs, not including the
nominee (If signatures cannot be collected on the
original letter, a collection of 10 signed
statements supporting the nomination will be
accepted.) PAs should also include their NCCPA
certificate number.
All materials should be submitted together no later
than February 15, 2002. Incomplete
nomination/application packages or those postmarked after
the deadline will not be considered.
Selection
A NCCPA board committee will review all properly
submitted nominations/applications and will conduct a
series of screening processes, which may include
verification of licensure, background checks and
telephone interviews. Then the committee will develop a
slate of at least two candidates for every vacant PA
director-at-large position. That slate will be submitted
to the NCCPA board of directors, whose members will elect
the PA directors at large by a simple plurality. In 2002,
the committee will submit a slate of at least six PAs to
the board, and the three PAs who receive the most votes
will fill the vacancies.
Notification of Results
The selection of PA directors at large will take place
no later than the May 30-31, 2002 meeting of the board of
directors. Elected PAs will be notified immediately, and
the results of the election will be published at NCCPA Connect and
in our quarterly newsletter, NCCPA News.
Type or print in blue or black ink. An electronic
